Foot length is the ground truth. Numbers in every system trace back to how long your foot is, which is why measuring your foot beats guessing from your street-shoe size. A dash means that size is not commonly offered in that system.

Cycling shoe sizing FAQ

Roughly, but cycling shoes should fit more snugly than street shoes. You want your foot held firmly with no heel lift and no sliding forward when you pull up on the pedal, but with your toes able to wiggle. Because most brands size cycling shoes in EU numbers, converting from your usual US or UK size is the first step, then fine-tune from there.

Stand on a sheet of paper with your heel against a wall, mark the tip of your longest toe, and measure from the wall to the mark. Do it in the afternoon when your feet are largest, and measure both feet, using the longer one. That length in centimetres or inches is what this converter uses to find your size.

Most cycling shoe brands, including Shimano, Sidi, Fizik, Specialized and Giro, list their main sizing in European (EU) numbers, sometimes with US equivalents alongside. That is why a reliable EU to US to UK conversion matters: you often have to translate your familiar US or UK size into EU to order the right pair.

If you are between sizes, size up rather than down. Feet swell on long rides, and a shoe that is a touch roomy can be dialed in with the straps or dial, whereas a tight shoe causes hot spots and numbness that nothing will fix. Riders who wear thick winter socks or use custom insoles often size up half a size.

Shoe sizing is not standardised across brands or even across models within a brand. A EU 43 from one maker can fit like a 42.5 or 43.5 from another, and lasts differ in width and volume. Use this chart to get into the right range from your foot length, then always check the specific brand size guide and, if you can, try the shoes on.

The EU number and foot length stay the same, but US womens numbering runs about 1.5 sizes higher than US mens for the same foot. This chart lists US mens and US womens side by side so you can convert from whichever you know. Womens specific shoes also tend to use a narrower heel and lower volume last.
