They also bring pedals, which scooter riders underrate: a flat battery on a bike is an inconvenience, while a flat battery on a scooter is a long walk pushing something heavy.

Scooters win on three things and it is worth being clear about them. They fold smaller and faster, they are easier to carry onto transit and into buildings, and they require no skill or fitness to ride. If those three matter more to you than ride quality and range, stay with the scooter and buy suspension. If they do not, the seat is a signal worth listening to.
