How the converter works
The tool takes your ride distance and divides it by an effort-based ratio to estimate the running distance that would cost a similar effort.

Core formula = ride distance ÷ ratio. A 12 mile ride at 3 : 1 converts to 4.0 running miles.

Easy spin 5 : 1. Gentle recovery riding where you can chat freely covers the most ground per unit of effort.

Steady endurance 3 : 1. A moderate, comfortable ride. This is the classic bike-to-run rule of thumb and the safe default.

Threshold 2 : 1. Fast, hard riding near your limit converts to more running miles because you are working harder per mile.

It is an estimate Weight, terrain, wind and pace all shift the true cost, so treat the result as a planning guide rather than an exact number.
Running carries your full body weight with impact on every stride, so it costs more energy per mile than cycling, where the saddle supports you and you can coast. That gap is why a ride always converts to a shorter run.
